The
Miami Project was founded in 1985 through the vision
and dedicated efforts of Dr. Barth Green, an internationally
recognized expert in the field of spinal cord injury.
National attention has been focused on the Miami
Project following the injury of football legend
Nick Buoniconti's son, Marc. The Buoniconti Fund
to Cure Paralysis raises money exclusively for The
Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

The
Miami Project has assembled a broad spectrum of
researchers, clinicians, and therapists whose expertise
all relate directly to the problems associated with
spinal cord injuries. By uniting knowledge and talents,
the team of scientists at The Miami Project has
accelerated its search for effective treatments
for spinal cord injuries.
In 1985, an energetic young athlete suffered a tragic
injury while doing what he loved best: playing football.
This young man, Marc Buoniconti, is the son of Miami
Dolphins' great, Nick Buoniconti. Many said that
the spinal cord injury that left Marc paralyzed
from the neck down was irreversible. However, through
The Miami Project, Marc is making extraordinary
strides every day.
At
Mutual Benefits Annual Holiday Gala, Marc Buoniconti
was a very special guest. MBC Executive Vice President
Steven Steiner announced MBC's $1 million pledge
to The Miami Project, and he invited Marc Buoniconti
up to the stage. Mutual Benefits Corporation is
very proud to be able to help such an important
organization as The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

This
year's holiday bonanza took place at the posh Marriott
Harbor Beach Resort & Spa in Ft. Lauderdale. It
was a two-tiered party - the cocktail party was a
full-out 50's bash complete with an authentic 50's
diner, servers on roller skates, tarot card readers,
caricaturists, and Marilyn Monroe and James Dean look-alikes.
Then, guests entered into a 50's Las Vegas Oscar Party,
complete with Oscar statuettes at each place sitting.
The entertainment included a gospel choir's tribute
to America, famous recording artists Little Anthony
and the Imperials, Vegas-style dancers, video presentations,
awards ceremony, gourmet dinner and dancing, and so
much more.
| Over
700 people attended this year's party marking
it as MBC's largest holiday event ever. Agents
from all over the world celebrated and danced
the night away.

In
early November, the Ft. Lauderdale Chapter of
the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation hosted their Leading
Men, 2003 gala which honored a small but distinguished
group of men recognized as "outstanding community
leaders" in South Florida. Steven Steiner,
Executive Vice President of Mutual Benefits Corporation,
was chosen as one of those "Leading Men."
|
This
black-tie gala honored exemplary corporate leaders
in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. The honorees,
including an Olympic gold-medallist, city manager,
CEOs, publisher, land developer and attorneys, were
acknowledged for their success in business, support
of charitable causes and their, outstanding leadership.
All of these men share a common goal - that is their
commitment to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's life
saving work, and hopes of one day soon finding a cure
for the disease.
Cystic
fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease that affects many
children and adults in the United States. CF affects
the lungs and pancreas from operating normally and
common symptoms include frequent pneumonia, chronic
lung infections, excessive appetite with little weight
gain, persistent coughing and wheezing. The median
age of survival for a person with CF extends into
the early 30s as a result of improved treatments developed
with Cystic Fibrosis Foundation support and specialized
medical care.
Mutual
Benefits Corporation plans to continue its relationship
with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation well into the
future to help find a cure for this disease. |
